Welcome and thank you for visiting the website of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Houston, Texas.
Greetings! I am Young-Ho Jung, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Houston.
I became Consul General in Houston in the year marking the 70th anniversary of the ROK-U.S. alliance, which was created by our two countries fighting for freedom and peace. At the summit meeting in May 2022, Korea and the United States promised to develop our bilateral relations into a global strategic alliance. The relationship between the two countries, which began with the security alliance, is deepening cooperation in various fields, including supply chain, health, energy, and digital sectors.
The Consulate General in Houston has jurisdiction over five states in the South Central United States: Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi, which are key areas for industrial and supply network cooperation between our two countries.
Texas, where the Consulate General is located, ranks second in diverse statistics such as population, GDP, and number of presidential electors, and is the economic center of the Central and Southern U.S. Here, Korean companies are active in numerous fields such as Samsung Electronics' semiconductor plant, energy, shipbuilding, and steel.
At an important moment when ROK-U.S. relations are taking a step forward, we will make greater efforts to increase cooperation between the two countries, including efforts in the economic and technological sectors.
Around 180,000 Koreans reside in these five South Central states, making positive contributions to the regional economy and society in a wide range of areas including medical, scientific, and energy fields. Also, a growing number of second- and third-generation Korean Americans from the region are taking the lead to promote friendly cooperation and solidify the relationship between Korea and the U.S.
The Consulate General will always be with our compatriots and make utmost efforts to improve the rights and interests of our compatriots, safety, and development.
Furthermore, as the Korean Wave spreads, and Korean pop culture and food are becoming in demand in the Central and Southern U.S., we will actively promote our national heritage to the region through various cultural events to create synergy and inspire our compatriots.
Thanks to the contributions and efforts of the two governments and people, the ROK-U.S. alliance has reached 70 years. Today, a new chapter in bilateral relations has been opened, so I am excited. We will continue to do our best to develop relations between Korea and the five states in our jurisdiction.
Thank you
Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Houston Jung Young Ho
