Consul General’s Greetings

  1. About the Mission
  2. Consul General’s Greetings
Welcome and thank you for visiting the website of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Houston, Texas.

Our government is a government of popular sovereignty, which places the people at the center and prioritizes policies that improve their quality of life. Based on this governing philosophy, we are pursuing pragmatic diplomacy centered on our national interests, firmly anchored in the ROK-U.S. Alliance, which has played the most critical role in ensuring peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.

The ROK-U.S. Alliance, built upon a robust security partnership spanning over 70 years, is grounded in shared values such as democracy, market economy, and the rule of law. It is now evolving into a future-oriented, comprehensive strategic alliance that encompasses security, the economy, and cutting-edge technologies.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Houston has jurisdiction over five states in the south-central United States: Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi. These states are key regions for bilateral cooperation in energy, advanced industries, and supply chains. In particular, Texas—where the Consulate General is located—ranks second in the United States in various indicators, including population, GDP, and the number of electoral votes. Korean companies are actively operating across a wide range of sectors here, including advanced industries, energy, and steel, with a notable examples such as Samsung Austin semiconductor. At this important juncture, as the ROK-U.S. relationship takes another leap forward, we will strive to ensure that the south-central United States becomes a hub for forward-looking cooperation between our two nations.

Approximately 180,000 Korean compatriots reside in the five states under our jurisdiction, contributing significantly to American society and the economy in fields such as medicine, science, and energy. The region also holds great promise for the continued advancement of second- and third-generation Korean Americans across diverse sectors. The Consulate General will continue to stand with our community and make every effort to enhance the safety and convenience of our nationals abroad, while promoting the rights and interests of the Korean community.

Furthermore, as the Korean Wave continues to expand, interest in Korean popular culture and cuisine is growing rapidly across the south-central United States. Through a wide range of cultural events, we will actively promote Korea’s rich cultural heritage in the region, fostering synergy between economic and cultural ties while also serving as a source of pride and support for our community.

As I assumed my post at a time when a new chapter in bilateral relations is unfolding—thanks to the efforts and contributions of both our governments and peoples—I feel honored and deeply encouraged. I will do my utmost to further strengthen relations between Korea and the five states under our jurisdiction.

Thank you

Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Houston Kyung-eun Lee
